Reimagining a Period Master Suite Within a Historic Scottish Residence

This project involved the comprehensive restoration and enhancement of a distinguished period property, carefully balancing the preservation of original character with the introduction of modern comforts and improved functionality.

The works centred around the creation of an elegant master bedroom suite, including structural alterations to open and connect adjoining rooms, allowing for the formation of a spacious new en-suite bathroom. Particular care was taken to ensure all alterations sat comfortably within the existing architecture and respected the heritage of the building.

Within the principal bedroom, bespoke decorative wall panelling and period-inspired detailing were introduced to enhance the room's proportions and create a refined, timeless aesthetic. A traditional wood-burning stove was installed within a restored fireplace setting, providing a striking focal point while complementing the property's historic character.

The newly created en-suite was fully renovated to a high specification, incorporating quality sanitaryware, bespoke cabinetry, contemporary finishes and carefully considered lighting to deliver a luxurious and functional space.

A significant element of the project also involved the restoration of the property's original sash and case windows. Works included the overhaul of existing frames, replacement of sash cords and weights, installation of discreet draught-proofing systems, and improvements to overall thermal performance while maintaining the original appearance and operation of the windows.

The project was completed with comprehensive decoration and finishing works throughout, delivering a cohesive, elegant interior that enhances both the property's character and long-term performance.

Particular attention was given to retaining the property's architectural character and seamlessly integrated throughout the new structural opening.

Traditional sash and case window refurbishment formed an important part of the project, including the installation of new weights and cords to restore smooth operation while improving longevity and performance. A new feature fireplace was created as a focal point within the room, incorporating a wood-burning stove and complemented by bespoke cabinetry and shelving designed and crafted to suit the proportions and character of the space.

The interior was completed with the installation of new hardwood flooring throughout, together with new skirting boards and detailed finishing works to provide a refined and cohesive appearance. The result is a bright, elegant living environment that successfully balances contemporary living requirements with the charm and craftsmanship expected of a traditional Scottish home.
